At Home With Louif Paradis

Salomon / Bonfire treats us to this insight into Louif Paradis daily routines at home. I'd say this is a real winner. I'm seriously thinking about hooking myself up with a 'no board' for those pow days stuck in the city. It will be perfect for hitting those inner city parks or going on hiking missions into the woods  / outdoor parks around Helsinki. Inspired.

Danny Larsen

We all knew he's a beastly urban ripper... but it's really cool and a bit surprising even seeing Danny Larsen ripping it up in the backcountry and bringing his distinct style to natural terrain. Style for days.

Stories From Here to There: Miikka Hast

This series by Protest is again a nice way to present your riders and your brand. It pays to do things a bit differently. Good stories make for good content and all the stories are a joy to watch. Here I had to go with this episode featuring Miikka Hast (the Finnish connection). Dude is doing some real damage in the backcountry. Make sure to check out Miikka's Split lines blog it's got some really good stuff on there.

Cooking With Gas Season 2

Welcome back boys. Cooking With Gas season 2. Eero & Heikki are now joined by Lauri full-time for the whole season. It's safe to say that these boys have really understood what it takes to make a great web-series. Big up Friday for the production. Great stuff.

"While I will always have the utmost respect for the superhuman out-of-bounds freestyle and extreme stunts that seem to continually progress beyond our imaginable limits, my highest appreciation goes out to the simple rider who's out there just for the experience." -Craig Kelly

Snowboarder Magazine's Rider of the Year 2013 video

Hats off and a standing ovation to the good people of Snowboarder Magazine for presenting their Rider of the Year 2013 in this format. Good stuff!

A run with Nicolas Müller at Mt Baker

Spent the morning doing some laps at our local resort. Stoked! just like Nico doing his thing. Thumbs up to Kevin Pearce putting in quick method cameo at the end.  Good times. I'm really getting psyched about  our trip to St Anton. Leaving in less than a week.

Madventures Episode 1: Endless pow

This right here my good people is the perfect start to another day at the office. Grab that cup of strong coffee and lean back. One more week and we are off to Arlberg for some pow of our own. Stoke.

Paper Shredder

This has been blowing up on the web and rightly so! It's a joy to watch and it's one of the most innovative pieces of snowboarding film I've seen in a while. Cool to see these guys pushing the envelope and doing something fun and creative. Hats off & thumbs up.

Nation Teaser

A big thumbs up for this teaser. TWS is going all in on their new movie and the accompanying microsite.

Gigi Rüf's winning run at Ultra Natural

After a couple of days of excitement and waiting we finally get the first video material Ultra Natural. From what's been reported and this clip it is fair to say that this is the event that is leading the way for competitive snowboarding.

Colin Adair: 2012 Year in the Rearview

Slideshows might feel a bit outdated but when the photography is this breathtaking and beautiful I don't care how it is presented. And the presentation here is stunning! Photographer Colin Adair serves up some real treats from his portfolio filming with the DC crew for "Must Be Nice". A highly recommended watch and I had to put on some Blind Melon after seeing it...  Sunday morning goodness.  I can also recommend Colin's blog.

Byrdseye Productions @LBS 2013

Byrdseye Productions bring us behind the scenes goodness from LBS.

The Lib Tech Crew @LBS 2013

I for one am very happy with more footage from LBS. Snowboarding really needs more events like this. This is what the sport is all about.

YES. It's a DCP Mini Movie

How can you not like Yes.? How can you not dig 10+ minutes of DCP doing what DCP does best? I rest my case.

LSP Days in Whistler Episode 3

Stumbled across this gem today. Most of the info is in Japanese (I assume) so I can't really say anything more about this. It does feature Tadashi Fuse and a lot of the good stuff. That's enough for me. And there's loads more where this came from.

Mt. Baker Banked Slalom 2013

A perfect gift from the good people over at Snowboarder Magazine. This clip made my day! I've had a few dreams about riding that course... What any snowboarder wouldn't give to take part in Banked Slalom at Mt. Baker. This is how Nico Müller summed up his experience of the event: "Best experience in a long time. I think every pro snowboarder should at some point do that event. The amount of different people that come together from Pioneers, Legends and young riders is incredible. The Mt.Baker Banked Slalom stands for riding, no matter who you are let’s see how you turn your snowboard and may the fastest win." (quote taken from Onboard Magazine)

8 Mile Life: Boys Will Be Boys

The 8 Mile Life crew treats you to almost 14 minutes of high-octane-attitude-filled-ballsy-snow-shred-action... Grab a beer and lean back. Gabba-gabba-hey.

K2 Snowboarding: Our Backyard

I promised to post some more series that are "pushing the envelope" of how brands tell their story. K2 Snowboarding is one of my favourite examples. The "Our Backyard" -series really captures the essence of the brand and shows what K2 is all about - shredding at Mt Baker. Visit the K2 Vimeo page for more episodes of goodness.

This is everything I could have a imagined/hoped for and much more. 'Nough said. Pure gold.

Japan Journals episode 2

The title of this episode says it all: Pillows for days...

Ultra Natural riders announced

Snowboarder Magazine got to pick one rider for Ultra Natural. Their addition is Mr Brian Fox. I for one agree 110% with their pick. Then again would Pat Bridges ever make a wrong move? Or a bad interview? Answer: "No".

I'm also really stoked to see Jussi Oksanen added to the list of riders. Jussi got picked by Transworld Snowboarding. Read the full scoop here

Check out the 16 riders who will be challenging T.Rice for the Ultra Natural crown.

Nike bad boys hitting Chile

An earlier post featured a teaser / shorter edit of the Nike crew hitting Chile. Here is more mouth watering action from the boys: Gigi, Nico, Danny & Manuel. The boys are tearing the Chilean mountains a new...

Alberta Uncovered

Good time ridin' in this mini movie by Billabong and TWS. This came as a nice extra feature/add-on (whatever one should call it) on the digital version of TWS. As such it works a charm. A lot of brands are putting more and more effort into making good quality clips to promote their goods & teams. I'll be posting some more of these in the days to come. Stay tuned.

David Benedek's "Current State: Snowboarding"

I

I really felt I had to promote this book by David Benedek. It's not fresh off the press and most of you probably already know about it... but it's still worth your while! My wife was kind enough to get me a copy of it last spring for my birthday. I was soo stoked (still am actually)! This book is the complete package. This little making of video above shows just how much passion went into making it happen. Inspirational. Make sure to check out the Almost Anything website and secure your copy of the book. David's new website is also worth checking out.

GO! episode 2

Picture from Transworld Snowboarding.
Head on over to TWS and check out the second episode of the GO crews endeavors in Jackson Hole. I posted the trailer of the show earlier on the blog. For a more in depth report check out the GO site here. Highly recommended stuff. Looking forward to their episode from the Mt Baker Banked Slalom that went down this weekend.

Salomon 13/14 shoot in Chile

This is such a feel good clip. Tons of action & good times. I'm sure the catalogue will be a real treat. Salomon have a really hard hitting team and have been putting out super products for a long time. They also have one of the coolest sites out there.

Ultra Natural

In about a weeks time it's all going down at Baldface Lodge. Travis Rice's brainchild has been renamed Ultra Natural for 2013. Once again it promises to be the event of the year. Check out the teaser above and read the full scoop over at TWS

Burton 2014 catalogue

It's that time of year again. The shred season is in full swing and it's time to start looking ahead. This means that the trade shows are in full swing and we are seeing the first glimpses of next seasons products. To me this is a really interesting time and I've been following a lot of different blogs and forums to get the lowdown on what's to come. In years to come it would be cool to attend some of these shows in person. Let's see what the future holds.

The new B catalogue was posted in one of the threads over at EasyLoungin.  Feast your eyes on the new B goods here (hard goods) and here (soft goods). The Juice Wagon is the one board I'm most stoked about! The new Barracuda graphics are also really nice, especially the 157... Also looking forward to the Restricted products.

Both picture are screenshots from above mentioned catalogue.

AIr & Style 2013 Innsbruck - Burn Session highlights

If you missed it last night, make sure to check out this short highlights set. It was great to see a session focusing on style and the legends showing up and showing us what it's all about. I really hope that we will see more competitions / sessions based on style in the future. Check out yesterday's action and news over at the Air & Style site

Day by day - Chapter 5 - Lines without lines

It's one hell of a grey & slushy morning in Helsinki. Yesterday's planning session for our upcoming trip to the Alps is one hell of a motivator to get up and going... and so is watching this clip by True Color Films. "Mu" & some friends doing what we all should be doing, shredding powder.

Whistler Bluebird Days

More Whistler. This time bluebird days. Sweet dreamin' of pow pow. It's on the list of places to visit before I keel over. A mission is in the works.

Monday Pow Day

It's snowing outside. Go shred some pow. Or watch the poncho in the deep pow pow.

Burton: Craig's Proto Lab

This little film made my heart beat a bit faster. Once again I realized that there's so much more to learn about snowboarding. Keeps it interesting. Need to dig deeper and dwell further.

Shredding in Ruka

Just spent 6 perfect days in Finnish Lapland at a resort called Ruka. The Lapland scenery is something else. So beautiful and peaceful. It was really nice to go back to this resort where I first got into snowboarding in the early 90's. A nostalgic trip.

The weather conditions were just perfect and we had some fresh as well. The slopes and "off pistes" (mainly tree runs) were sooo good to ride and there were hardly any people at all.  I realized (once again) that there is no better feeling than crusin' & charging down the mountain. It's just really good for mind, body and soul!

The Rome crew making their way through some pow pow. Face shots to the derby. The Dirksen Derby that is...

Bryan Fox - Enlighten full part

Here's the other half behind Drink Water, Mr Bryan Fox. This is probably my favourite part from last year's releases. Can't put my finger on "why?" exactly... Bryan just seems like a really cool dude and  Danzig's "How the God's kill" is always a big plus. The text on his jacket sleeves = classic stuff. And well, the riding... it just speaks for itself, doesn't it.

Austen Smith - One run

Whoomp! Quite similar in vibe to one of my first posts on the blog "An enchanted line". Mr Smith making it look so fun just cruisin'. Snoop's "Gin & Juice" should be playing on the background. Laidback. That's the way to go. Check out Drink Water while your at it.  Relevant stuff & I back this initiative 100%.

Of Life & Love // Intro

"We all snowboard because it's just a fun thing to do..." That sums it up nicely. Couldn't agree more! It really is that simple. More info here

Snow Craft: the search for modern primitive snowboarding

Following the theme from my previous post. This series is all about the soul and roots of snowboarding. Head on over to the TWS website to check out the whole Snow Craft series. And make sure to check out the TJ Brand website and blog

Burton's Family Tree

There have been a lot of short series of films that portray the roots of snowboarding and offers a different look at riding the mountains. I will post a couple here on my blog. I find them to be really inspiring and they really resonate with my view of snowboarding. It'a all about roots and soul. Riding a mountain in its purest form. This first one is by Burton and sheds more light on their Family Tree line of boards. I'm really tempted to test the Juice Wagon.

WE RIDE The story of snowboarding

This is one to look forward to. Described as "a story told by the legends who made snowboarding what it is today".  Should be out in cinemas in February.

Bryan Iguchi & Jamie Lynn

Volcom's IP2 series ends with a banger. The whole series of parts has been a treat but this one to me is really special. Bryan Iguchi & Jamie Lynn were two of my absolute favourite riders and hugely influential to our little crew in the early nineties. The guys are still doing it. Age is but a number. Jamie's backflip at the end there... boom! Legends.

Go check out Iguchi's blog for more great stuff.

Never stop exploring: Lucas Debari

Lucas has been getting a lot of exposure in the last months (actually years). He's a real seasoned backcountry slayer (despite his young age). I really enjoy his style of riding and his video parts have been really good to watch. It feels that he is all over the place and deservedly so.

He was along for the ride with Jeremy Jones in Further (which I posted on earlier). Then there's Mission Antarctica, where he hooked up with Xavier De La Rue for a trip to Antarctica. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished document. The teaser and blog already have me really hyped.

And then there's the GO! road trip series that looks soo sweet. Definitely one to stay tuned to as more episodes will be dished out over at Transworld.

Like father like son

My good friend told me that there's no better feeling than being on the hill with your son. His son is 5 years old and enjoying his 2nd season on a snowboard. My son will be 18 months next winter. I can't wait...
