Kazu is now on Capita

So it's finally official. Kazu is now on the Capita team. After leaving Burton I'm guessing a lot of teams were out to sign him. A small X-mas gift? The above video is a really nice way to release the news. Goes without saying that Kazu is a really cool addition to the already heavy hitting Capita team. Stonp.

And here's some more Kazu. Cheers.

New post series: Line of the week

"Let snowboarding stay confusing for those who don’t understand activities that let everyone be a winner." - Danny Larsen

Decided to start a weekly post series I'll call "Line of the week". This is where I share a weekly quote   that sums up what snowboarding (to me) is all about. So here goes. The honour of kicking  things off goes to non other than Danny Larsen

And then there's Terje

I left this one out of the previous Friday flavoured post. It deserved its own mention. Watching this just sends chills down my spine. This is snowboarding. And so is Terje. Hands down the most stylish and progressive snowboarder. Just watch it. Now!

Jake Blauvelt Naturally

I know. I'm stating the obvious here... This one caused a storm when it was release a while back. And it's probably (one of) the most anticipated release of 2013. I know I can't wait for it. Friday has done some incredibly great work filming snowboarding. Tracking Eero and the Naturally series bring an interesting & fresh look at the life of (pro)snowboarders and nothing but A+ shredding. Watch them all. It'll do you good.

Be cool. Helmets on

That was quick. The Red product line is now known as Anon (see more details here). Looking good. Helmets are the only smart choice, they're cool, functional and actually really comfortable. I'm a believer.

Doing it for the cause

Me and some friends have been toying with the idea of putting on a low-key "fun for all shred fest". Something that suits us "oldies" now that rails & gap jumps are a thing of the past. Needless to say that we've been heavily inspired by the Banked Slalom at Mt Baker, the Dirksen Derby and other classic back to basics events. After seeing the above clip I'm more convinced than ever that we just need to move on to the "DO"-phase of our project. Enough talk. We need action. And fun. We will put together a cool little banked course, gather together some good people, play good music & have tasty food + drinks. The do good aspect is also something we want to throw in there!

Relax. Canada represent

Forgot about this one. I've had it on my computer for a couple of months. After finally watching it tonight I'm really stoked. High quality riding, good tunes and a really positive vibe. Real smooth. Highly recommended. Download available here

Icons in the park

DD & KJ lapping up the park to some good ol' punk. Icons. Salute.

Relate to it

Nice project & film by Antti Autti and friends. Antti said somewhere that one should start talking about "freeridestyle" as opposed to "freeriding" or "freestyle". I couldn't agree more. Free. Ride. Style. Makes perfect sense.

White Noise

Another inspiring piece of film. Xavier is a pleasure to watch and it's truly inspiring to hear his personal thoughts on snowboarding. It's all about passion, dedication and love for the sport. Merci!

Nike Snowboarding Project - Chapter 3

This is the one I was looking forward to the most. Love Justin Hostynek's style. Black and white works so well. So nice & clean. True analogue feel.

A nice story

4 for fun

A minute + well spent. Gigi, Nico, Danny & Manuel lapping it up to some good ol' funk. Chile represent.

Manuel Diaz was one of the highlights / surprises of Absinthe's Resonance. In general I was a bit disappointed with Resonance. I had really high expectations after Twelve. What happened to the soundtrack for instance...? Nico's part was top notch as always, but I still find it disappointing that a lot of the footage was already submitted to the Real Snow Backcountry and had been surfacing online since last spring. The amount of recycled material out there these days is a bit surprising...

When a film drops and we actually pay to see them, you would hope to get fresh footage...

Pushing it Further

Jeremy Jones is the man. He is one of the most driven snowboarders out there. His love for the sport, the mountains and how he has chosen to live his dream is truly inspirational.  Last year's Deeper was phenomenal. And the series second installment does what its title promises. It does go further. Out of all the snowboarding movies I've watched this past fall (and I must admit I've actually seen most releases) this it the one that really leaves a mark.

This project incorporates the perfect balance between a great story, documentary type elements and mind-blowing snowboarding action. Personally I wish that more crews would start paying more attention to storytelling and finding new ways of documenting the many aspects of snowboarding. The bar has been raised by Teton Gravity. Salute!

Make sure to check out the "Making of...". A huge salute to the whole crew that makes it all possible. This is true dedication and belief and what you love. 110% inspirational.

If you haven't seen this one... make sure you do and check out Deeper first.

Protect your neck

I'm almost a bit ashamed to admit that I've never wore a helmet while snowboarding. Last spring decided that I need to start wearing one. This is in part due to the fact that I now have a small child. It's a life changing experience and all of a sudden you just start thinking about these things (being safe) and taking it all a bit more seriously.

For some reason helmets still seem to be a taboo in the snowboarding community. I'm really surprised to see that pros only wear them at contests. Big mountain riders seem to be way ahead of the rest. I guess it's just pig-headedness. We should all have learned something from Kevin Pearce's head injury. We shouldn't need a wake-up call like that.

It's really cool to see that the Finnish Snowboarding Association has started a campaign to raise awareness about head protection and making the young realize that it's not uncool to be safe. A lot of the top Finnish boarders are onboard and endorsing this campaign.

I'm actually really happy with my decision and I can't wait to start the season wearing a helmet. I've been lucky enough not to have any major accidents or injuries... so far. I'm not too eager to tempt fate. And hey. Terje - probably the coolest boarder out there (still) - is wearing one. So let's all gear up and helmet on.

Here's my weapon of choice.

Good ol' cruisin'

Good vibes all around. Just laidback cruisin'. No fuss. This to me is what it's all about. Enjoying being on the mountain. Great sounds too: "White giraffe" by Planetsensorium. Gets me stoked to go ride.

The X hits the spot

Weapon of choice? Burton Custom X 58. Love at first sight. And rides like a dream. The season is finally here. Gone cruisin'...
