4 for fun

A minute + well spent. Gigi, Nico, Danny & Manuel lapping it up to some good ol' funk. Chile represent.

Manuel Diaz was one of the highlights / surprises of Absinthe's Resonance. In general I was a bit disappointed with Resonance. I had really high expectations after Twelve. What happened to the soundtrack for instance...? Nico's part was top notch as always, but I still find it disappointing that a lot of the footage was already submitted to the Real Snow Backcountry and had been surfacing online since last spring. The amount of recycled material out there these days is a bit surprising...

When a film drops and we actually pay to see them, you would hope to get fresh footage...

Pushing it Further

Jeremy Jones is the man. He is one of the most driven snowboarders out there. His love for the sport, the mountains and how he has chosen to live his dream is truly inspirational.  Last year's Deeper was phenomenal. And the series second installment does what its title promises. It does go further. Out of all the snowboarding movies I've watched this past fall (and I must admit I've actually seen most releases) this it the one that really leaves a mark.

This project incorporates the perfect balance between a great story, documentary type elements and mind-blowing snowboarding action. Personally I wish that more crews would start paying more attention to storytelling and finding new ways of documenting the many aspects of snowboarding. The bar has been raised by Teton Gravity. Salute!

Make sure to check out the "Making of...". A huge salute to the whole crew that makes it all possible. This is true dedication and belief and what you love. 110% inspirational.

If you haven't seen this one... make sure you do and check out Deeper first.

Protect your neck

I'm almost a bit ashamed to admit that I've never wore a helmet while snowboarding. Last spring decided that I need to start wearing one. This is in part due to the fact that I now have a small child. It's a life changing experience and all of a sudden you just start thinking about these things (being safe) and taking it all a bit more seriously.

For some reason helmets still seem to be a taboo in the snowboarding community. I'm really surprised to see that pros only wear them at contests. Big mountain riders seem to be way ahead of the rest. I guess it's just pig-headedness. We should all have learned something from Kevin Pearce's head injury. We shouldn't need a wake-up call like that.

It's really cool to see that the Finnish Snowboarding Association has started a campaign to raise awareness about head protection and making the young realize that it's not uncool to be safe. A lot of the top Finnish boarders are onboard and endorsing this campaign.

I'm actually really happy with my decision and I can't wait to start the season wearing a helmet. I've been lucky enough not to have any major accidents or injuries... so far. I'm not too eager to tempt fate. And hey. Terje - probably the coolest boarder out there (still) - is wearing one. So let's all gear up and helmet on.

Here's my weapon of choice.

Good ol' cruisin'

Good vibes all around. Just laidback cruisin'. No fuss. This to me is what it's all about. Enjoying being on the mountain. Great sounds too: "White giraffe" by Planetsensorium. Gets me stoked to go ride.

The X hits the spot

Weapon of choice? Burton Custom X 58. Love at first sight. And rides like a dream. The season is finally here. Gone cruisin'...
